There was one project that was not part of the official line up of the Light Nelson event this year; The lighting of the clock tower faces.

We wanted to keep this one quiet until the last minute. A chance to add something special during this year’s event and to encourage others to add a bit of spontaneous colour, light and art to our city.

This project was more than just coloured light though. By making it possible for the colours to be controlled by anybody in Nelson (or, in fact, the World!) we hoped to remind everybody that Council works for the people and that the building belongs to us all.

It was also a project that reminded us that Nelson is special - That we have a Council that would give two artists the opportunity to do something like this. To literally give us the keys to the tower and say ‘go for it’. In this day and age, where else could you do that? A big thank you to Nelson City Council for their trust and providing this opportunity.

Note that all equipment was borrowed and the our time was donated for free. No ratepayers were harmed in the making of this artwork.
